A fun festive treat for young children to get them in the mood for Christmas. The activity requires careful observation skills. There are 18 pictures of animals all wearing a different Christmas hat. There are also 18 hat pictures for children to match up to the animals. You could use the activity like a lotto game where 3 children each have a board showing 6 animals in their hats. They would then try to match up the correct hats with the correct animal. Alternatively, duplicate the animal pictures, laminate and cut out for matching games. The final sheet of the resource shows all 18 animals - this can be used for matching the animal pictures, for inspiration for making posters or Christmas cards or for speaking and listening activities. Extend the activity by asking the children to design and make a Christmas hat for themselves or for an animal of their choice.

Introducing opposite words - open and closed. 60 sorting cards to cut out and sort into Open and Closed. There are 5 pages of colour cards with 12 cards on each page. There is a template included for you to make more cards. Alternatively, children can paste onto the template when sorting.

This resource links to pattern, colour and shape as well as topics on clothing. There are 6 examples of pairs of shoes /trainers that show the soles and the patterns on these. Children can talk about the colours, shapes and patterns. They can then look at a selection of shoes /trainers examining their soles /patterns. They could consider why certain shoes may have particular patterns. Children could bring to school a pair of shoes from home that show interesting patterns. They can draw the patterns and/or make up patterns of their own. Sheet 1 of the resource shows black and white pairs of trainers. These can be photocopied for children to colour or paint.

This resource makes a great classroom display or hang around the room or hall for bunting. There is a card for each of the days in December, each displaying a Christmas picture. Link to maths where children can order the numbers from 1 to 25 or 25 to 1. Duplicate and children can match the cards. Link to speaking and listening and children can try to recall and describe what picture goes with which number. Enlarge and use in an assembly or Christmas production. There is a blank template included that the teacher can photocopy/print out for each child. Children can then design their own cards and make a collection for a class display.

A fun with food activity linked to numbers 1 to 6. Sheet 1 shows sushi arranged on a table. Sheet 2 shows 6 individual sushi in different colours. Sheet 3 shows a template that children can fill in. Sheet 4 shows an empty table that children could paste sushi onto. The idea is that children cut out the individual sushi and organise them in as many different ways that they can so that each arrangement is different but still adds up to 6. Cut and laminate the sushi cards and table for use in your number area.

A maths activity based on size and colour and numbers 1 to 5 or 5 to 1. There are 4 copies of sheet 1 showing colour blocks from 1 to 5. Each sheet shows different colour blocks. Blocks can be sorted into size sets or sets from 1 to 5. There are 6 activity idea sheets that can be coloured in, pasted onto or bricks /blocks added to. e.g. Sheet 5 - this shows a collection of size 5 blocks. Children can colour these in, paste into or add physical blocks to. Sheet 10 shows only block size 5, children can add colour blocks in descending order from 4 to 1.

A counting and matching card activity for children learning to recognise, read and order numbers and number words to 12. Cut out the cards and laminate for durability and practical activities.

10 worksheets with a Halloween theme. Each page shows a Halloween related image. There are 5 of the images on each page of various sizes. Children can colour, cut out and order the pictures from smallest to largest or large to small and label them. Alternatively, the children can make sets of the different sized pictures.

3 sets of cards to cut, colour and match with a Halloween theme. Each of the 3 sets has matching numbers and number words. Children can count to 12, order the numbers and number words and find sets of each number card.

5 worksheets with a Halloween theme. Children count and colour the pictures with numbers up to 10.

10 worksheets based on a food theme. Each sheet shows 4 food or drink items - 1 of these is the odd one out e.g. potato, pizza and popcorn all begin with p - thus the odd one out is cake. Children can write the cursive words and colour the pictures. Children can compare the pictures on each page and say how they have decided on the criteria.
